Happy 45th Birthday Star Trek

I remember watching the original when I was very young.  Actually I remember sitting there with my dad when it was on.  At the time I liked Lost in Space better (I was young).  But I’ve always liked space travel shows.  And time travel shows like …  Time Tunnel.  Ah … television in the 1960’s.  Those were the days.

Since I  was so young, you can guess which was my favorite episode:

  1. I was the wrong age at the wrong time to like the show when it was on. My friends and I found it too preachy and sentimental (maybe not quite the right word) for our burgeoning desire to be seen as knowing and cynical. And then I went to college and hardly watched any television.

But of course I've watched the endless reruns of it since but I think the later reincarnations were much better shows -- I still think it's preachy and Kirk irritates the hell out of me (give me Bones and Spock any day).

I do like the Trouble with Tribbles though -- in fact, it's the only episode that really sticks in my memory.

  2. I agree that the later reincarnations were better. I particularly liked DS9 - after the first year.

I remember being fascinated by the new technology in the first one - things that look really cheap and old hat now. But I'd still like them to invent a way to "beam us" places. Or short of that - I'd like a holodeck. :)
